| Welcome to the web site of the Ceiriog Valley Action Group NO to wind turbines in the Ceiriog ValleyThrough this site we intend to provide information to residents about the impact of wind turbines in rural areas and what this will mean to the Ceiriog Valley. Please follow the links to see our case against the proposal as well as scientific evidence and information from other areas threatened with this blight. This site will be regularly updated with campaign news, factual information about wind farms, pictures and interesting links. 'Ymddiheurwn nad oes fersiwn Cymraeg

FARM PROPOSAL AT CEFN Y MAES, NORTH EAST OF RHYDYCROESAU
A large wind power station is being proposed for a site two miles long on the hills above Oswestry, which straddles the border between Shropshire and Powys, and is adjacent to the boundary with Wrexham. The developers are currently discussing with the planning authorities (that will eventually decide their planning application) what should be the contents of the formal Environmental Impact Assessment they are required to compile. This is a public process known as ‘Scoping’, and from documents available for public inspection in the three planning department(s) it has been learned that the project is likely to contain 18 turbines each over 260ft tall between Oswestry racecourse and the Ceiriog Valley. These are larger than
any yet constructed in Wales, and the project would be more than double the size
of any yet completed in England. SOBER (Save Our
Borderland EnviRonment ) is a local action group that has been convened to
represent Oswestry and the borders. It will combine with Ceiriog Valley Action Group
(CVAG) which successfully fought off the the nearby proposal which threatened
the horizons of the Ceiriog valley in 2002, and was refused planning permission
by Wrexham Borough Council. While all thinking people should support the need to reduce pollution and introduce acceptable forms of renewable energy, once again a huge, insensitive and above all unnecessary proposal threatens to dominate the landscapes of this area and ruin its enjoyment by the public, especially those who walk on the recently completed network of paths etc etc. The fact remains that the UK is rapidly moving towards achievement of its renewable energy target set for 2010 by the rapid development of large scale offshore wind installations which, provided they are carefully sited, have none of the controversial effects of projects of this sort.
