Anti wind turbine posters

torn down overnight

POSTERS underlining the widespread opposition to plans for giant 300 ft wind turbines in the Ceiriog Valley, have been torn down from their sites under the cover of darkness.

More than 30 laminated 17 x 12 inch (A3) posters proclaiming ‘No to 300ft. high wind turbines in this Valley’ have been ripped down over the past two days, many of them from the stretch of the B4500 Valley road between Pontfaen and Pontfadog.

Paid for by public donations to the anti-wind turbine campaign, the posters give details of a crucial public meeting at the Oliver Jones Memorial Hall, Dolywern,  this Wednesday (7.30 pm) – the last before Wrexham County Borough Council’s July 8th extended deadline for receiving letters of objection.

The Ceiriog Valley Action Group which is spearheading the campaign to prevent the Ceiriog Valley being turned into a ‘Turbine Alley’, believes that one individual, who supports the application by Glyn Ceiriog farmer Gareth Roberts and whose identity is known,  is responsible.

Said CVAG area co-ordinator Jools Payne: “We’re determined to put the truth of the Cefn Coed wind turbine proposals to residents in the Valley.  It is regrettable that one person allied to the planning application is attempting to deprive people of that truth, by stealing out at night to remove the public meeting notices. It shows how desperate they are to smother the growing opposition to their plans.

“Such action only strengthen our resolve. We have a small army of volunteers who are just putting up more posters as they get torn down. And from here on we’ll be keeping a much closer watch on the poster sites. “

The damaging effects that wind turbines would have upon the Ceiriog Valley’s way of life, will be spelled out at Wednesday night’s meeting by Geoffrey Sinclair, spokesman for the Campaign for the Protection  of Rural Wales.
