Wind turbines: objectors get

a little more time

OPPONENTS of a plan to erect three of Britain’s biggest wind turbines in the Ceiriog Valley, have been given further time to lodge formal objections.

Wrexham County Borough Council which is to decide on the application to erect the three 300ft high turbines at Cefn Coed, Glyn Ceiriog,  had originally required all objections to be submitted by July 8.

By the deadline, an unprecedented 1,370 objections to the turbines proposal were received by the Council, with just 15 letters in support of the application.

Most objections focus on the claim that the application is indiscriminate and inappropriate, that the turbines would visually desecrate the Valley, and that the applicants have provided no indication of the likely noise resonance levels which would result.

But now Wrexham CBC Planning Officer Matthew Davies has said any letters received before next Monday, August 5th, will still be taken into account before he submits his report and recommendation to Wrexham’s Planning Committee.

Said Ceiriog Valley Action Group Chairman Kyran Lawford: “Wrexham’s planning department has never seen such a profound response to any planning application before.

“To the people who sent in 1,370 objections, its’ quite unthinkable that the Ceiriog Valley could be turned into such a ‘Turbine Alley’. Now we have a few more days to really drive home the message that this beautiful unspoilt Valley which depends upon tourism, is a totally inappropriate setting for a development of industrial turbines.

“We urge anyone who hasn’t yet written to Wrexham Council with an objection to do so now, as a matter of priority.”
